Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 10, is a School Improvement Day. Students will be released for an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
As part of a new way to highlight the amazing people who make Harvey Schools 152 so special, we will be highlighting a new feature called Someone You Should Know. These wonderful members of our community will be featured at board meetings, given a certificate, and celebrated on our social media channels and website.
For April 2023, we were honored to celebrate full time substitute teacher Quentin Wright. Mr. Wright was recently recognized by his Alma Mater Grand Canyon University College of Education as a Teacher of the Year.
In addition to being a celebrated member of the Harvey 152 family, Mr. Wright is also a celebrated Professional DJ, Writer and Poet. Students love being able to interact with Mr. Wright and his passion for music, writing, and education.
The recognition from his alma mater is absolutely something to be proud of and we are thrilled to be able join in the celebration by naming him Someone You Should Know!
It is Staff Appreciation Week! Each and every day, our teachers empower our students to learn new skills and take on new challenges. We appreciate all that our staff members do to support our students on their educational journey. Comment below with a note for our teachers and staff!
As a part of the Step Up program which bridges the gap between Pre-K and Kindergarten, the Riley Pre-K students came to visit Holmes Elementary School. During their visit Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Mesarina read them a story, made sequence hats, and met the current Kindergartners! They also received a special visit from the Holmes Blue Jay!
In honor of Earth Day, fourth grade students at Maya Angelou Elementary School learned how to plant seeds and tend to plants in their garden! Their garden includes various fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. What an exciting way to watch science in action!
Many thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (Phi Epsilon Omega Chapter) for donating a Pink Dogwood tree to Holmes Elementary School! The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority held a tree planting ceremony with students and staff on April 28. When fully grown the Pink Dogwood will be between 15-20 feet tall and bloom pink flowers every spring.

Attendance is a crucial part of a studentās success in school. Weāre proud of the 106 students at Holmes Elementary School that did not miss a day of school in April, which is the highest number of students with perfect attendance for a month this school year. The students were rewarded with a pizza party! Itās cool to be in school!
Last week, the Brooks Middle School Student Council went on a field trip to Springfield! Students met with state representatives, including Governor Pritzker, and learned more about our state government. Students were proud to meet Brooks Middle School alum and current Harvey 2nd Ward Alderman Marshun Tolbert!
Congratulations to all of our students who participated in last week's District STEM Fair! Our students did an incredible job preparing their projects and showcasing their work with our community.
Summer School registration is now open and is available to all students! Current District 152 students in grades Kindergarten through 7th grade are invited to attend. Summer School will run Monday-Friday from June 12 - July 7. (No school on Tuesday, July 4.)

Last week, Holmes Elementary School hosted their Father Daughter Dance! It was a special night for our students and their family members to get dressed up and dance the night away!
Last week, District 152 Assistant Principal Mr. Patrick Gronbech and Human Resource Manager Ms. Sirlena Thomas attended the DePaul University Job Fair! We look forward to filling teaching and Special Services positions for the 2023-2024 school year.
