Last month, he graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a Master of Business Management degree with a focus in Business Data Management and Communication. Mr. Wilson is a former student of Bryant Elementary School, Brooks Middle School and graduated from Thornton Township High School’s International Baccalaureate program. Congratulations to District 152 alum, Tanganika D. Watts! She recently graduated from DePaul University with a Masters Degree in Special Education! Ms. Watts attended Maya Angelou Elementary School, Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, and Thornton Township High School.
This former past President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Lambda Chapter and Student Government Association Illinois Board of Higher Education Representative looks to improve the overall trajectory for Black students, minorities, recent immigrants and underprivileged students in academics.

Harvey School District 152 recently announced the appointment of Dr. Gloria Carbajal-Trejo as the new Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning and will begin her role on July 1, 2024.
Dr. Trejo has been in education for the past 28 years and has worked for Chicago Public Schools, Bloomington Public Schools and West Chicago District 33. For the past 23 years, Dr. Trejo has worked in West Chicago District 33 in various roles including Lead Teacher, ELL Director, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent.
Dr. Trejo’s goal is to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where educators and staff feel empowered to innovate and excel. Additionally, she aims to enhance student achievement by implementing data-driven strategies and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities for all students.

Near the end of the school year, Whittier Elementary held a special Whittier en Blanc Party! Students and staff gathered together to dress up in white, eat lunch, dance and socialize. It was a perfect way to wrap up the school year!
Each year, Angel Award recipients are celebrated at each school. In order to receive the award, staff members have to be recognized as outstanding throughout the year by their colleagues. We’re excited to share some exciting news from a Harvey School District alum! This May, Virginia Rodriguez graduated from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Illinois Chicago. Ms. Rodriguez attended Whittier Elementary, Brooks Middle School, and was in the Thornton Township High School Class of 2020.

Harvey School District 152 is officially on summer office hours! Our building hours are Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buildings are closed on Fridays for energy savings from now until July 20.
Bryant Elementary School Assistant Principal Mrs. Matthews planned a day of celebration for students who met and or exceeded the requirements for the Illinois Assessment Readiness Test! Thank you State Representative Will Davis for presenting the students with acknowledgments from the State of Illinois for their success.

Holmes Elementary School had three different raffles on the last day of school but the only way you could win is if you were at school. We are proud to share that they had more than 95% of students in attendance on the last day of school!

Bryant Elementary School kindergarten students had an incredible year of learning and growing in their social and emotional development. They celebrated the end of the school year with a trip to the zoo, creating a painting, and attending their awards ceremony with their families. First grade, here they come!
Field Day is always an exciting way to wrap up the school year! Whittier Elementary School students enjoyed a sunny day filled with a bounce house, bubbles, potato sack race, tug-of-war and more! The best part was cooling off with the ice cream truck!
When students’ basic needs are met, they are better equipped to learn and grow. Bryant Elementary School recently hosted a clothes giveaway event for students and families. Thank you to all who donated items of clothes to support our community!
Last month, Riley Early Childhood celebrated their fathers or special loved ones with a Dads and Donuts event! It was an exciting day for the students to welcome their guests into the school and share a sweet treat.
Tigers and Bears unite! Last week, Bryant Elementary School students enjoyed the visit from the mobile clinic sponsored by Advocate Health Care System and the Chicago Bears franchise! This initiative was created to show students how important physical fitness is in their daily routine by offering skills for 60 minutes a day of physical activity.
Tomorrow, Friday, May 31, is the last day of school! Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Happy summer to our Harvey Schools community!
Congratulations to Holmes Elementary School retirees! Mrs. Farfan, who has been the secretary has been at Holmes for the last 40 years, and her sister, Mrs. Carbajal, who has been the Parent Coordinator/Attendance Monitor for the last 15 years. Last week, Holmes even had a special surprise visit from another Harvey School District 152 legend, Mr. Phillip Skubal, to help celebrate our retirees!

Last week, our Board of Education honored two individuals from Maya Angelou School! Board President Ms. Maya Gardner presented capes to basketball and track coach Mr. Claude Davis and super volunteer Zyporah Hale to symbolize their "Super Success" for students. Coach Davis has led the Eagles Girls and Boys Basketball team to back-to-back championships. Thank you both for all that you do for our community!
