How are the Whittier Wildcats improving their attendance, increasing math achievement, and creating a sense of intrinsic motivation? Each day, the Wildcats are using their attendance data in each classroom to create fractions. Students use mathematical vocabulary and engage in math chats as they analyze their attendance data. All Wildcats are working towards becoming an attendance H.E.R.O. (Here Every day Ready On time)!

PBIS (Positive Behavior and Intervention Strategies) emphasizes the importance of positive relationships as central to building community and supporting positive changes in behavior. Brooks Middle School currently has ten staff members trained in PBIS, and over the next two months, will fully train the rest of the staff. Students have been provided lessons to support positive behaviors in various parts of our building. Way to go, Warriors!
Teachers are supporting social emotional learning and attendance at Riley Early Childhood Center! Ms. Lugardo uses literature to stress the importance of attendance. One book the students listened to was, āPigeon Has to Go to Schoolā by Mo Willems. In order to support their social emotional development, Ms. Lugardo regularly talks with students about feelings and reminds them that they are safe at school.

Harvey School District presented the Mayor of Harvey Christopher J. Clark with an artifact from 1910! Nineteen years after the establishment of Harvey IL there was a sewing circle class where women were learning to stitch their names. The artifact was discovered by a woman in Idaho, who had a small resale shop, and recently reached out to the district. It was very important for her to get that cloth back to Harvey.
