For those that did not know, Assistant Principal Mr. Gronbech and his wife are expecting a baby boy later this year. The staff at Holmes Elementary School surprised Mr. Gronbech with a baby shower. We are excited for Mr. Gronbech and his family and about the new addition to the Holmes community!
Tomorrow, Friday, May 24, is the end of fourth quarter in Harvey School District. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
The primary grades at Holmes Elementary School are participating in the ABC Countdown to Summer! The teachers created a calendar for the last 26 days of school with each day representing a letter from A to Z. Each day has a theme including A for Stuffed Animal Day, I for Insect Day, K for King Day, L for Laptop Day and M for Movie Day.
Since March, students at Holmes Elementary School have participated in the Hispanic Heritage Dance Club after school! The program concluded with a final performance including students from the Hispanic Heritage Dance Club and a group of professional dancers sharing their talents.
Many thanks to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for their support of Holmes Elementary School! Last month, they donated two trees, bringing the total to seven new trees on our campus. They also sponsored a Back to School Fair last fall and provided food bags for our families before both Winter and Spring Breaks. They plan to plant a flower and food garden for the community later this month. We appreciate our community partners and their continued support!
Holmes Elementary School students that had perfect attendance for the month of April received an Ice Cream Sundae! The epic sundae included Oreos, M&M's, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and even a cherry on top. At Holmes, "It's Cool to Be in School!”

We love to hear from our staff members about why they love working at Harvey School District 152! Tyler Jones is a first grade teacher at Whittier Elementary and shared a bit about her passion for teaching and learning.
“I enjoy working in this district, primarily, because it has helped me gain a wealth of knowledge through professional development to broaden my experience as a teacher. Through the professional development sessions, I have perfected my teaching skills of curriculum standards and teaching strategies to meet the needs of my students. Increasing my competency allows me to better serve my students and aid in the advancement of their education. It is my desire to consistently provide a classroom that is welcoming, respectful, and supportive. I am passionate and committed to ensuring that my influence reaches far beyond the doors of my classroom, which is why I am committed to connecting with each student’s family. I pride myself on being an approachable collaborator and communicator to ensure I provide my students with an optimal education.”
