Angelou Elementary School students held one of their favorite Thanksgiving traditions before the holiday break: a parade of balloons! Teachers read the book “Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade” and students learned about how the giant balloons were created for the world famous parade. Students designed their own balloon floats and paraded for our families!

Thank you to all the families that attended the family night event at Maya Angelou Elementary School earlier this month! Families and students enjoyed learning about Dia De Los Muertos from Ms. Ramirez, who is a Parent Educator in Harvey’s Birth-to-3 program. She shared valuable information about setting up an altar with the photos of the loved ones who have passed on, as well as about the variety of flowers, food and drinks placed on the altar to honor loved ones.
Everyone visited various stations which included creating tombstone messages, making papel picado and decorating sugar skulls. The event was a beautiful celebration and wonderful time spent with Angelou families!
Recently, our Board of Education approved our 2023-2028 Strategic Goals!

Grow and maintain a work environment that recruits and retains high-quality staff
Enhance communication and community relations
Provide a safe and effective learning environment with fiscal responsibility
These goals were developed by stakeholder feedback including focus groups and surveys. Next, our board and administration will begin working from these goals to then develop specific strategies over the next couple of years.
