Last week was our District Math Bowl and there was some fierce competition. Congratulations to the dedicated math coaches and each of the competitors! The following students will go on to compete with surrounding districts at Prairie State College for the Regional Division Math Bowl Competition on May 2-3. Last month, the Harvey Educational Foundation held their Annual Gala! This special event celebrates individuals who have supported the school district and the Harvey community while raising funds for educational grants awarded to Harvey School District 152 educators. Each year, honoree nominations are requested from staff members and the selections are made by the Foundation board members. Last week, Harvey School District 152 hosted the annual district-wide Black History Month event honoring the past and inspiring the future. We’re incredibly proud of the wonderful student performances! We are grateful for all of the community members who attended. A huge thank you to all of the students, staff and families for organizing an incredible event and sharing your talents!

Superintendent Dr. Lawrence recently stopped by to visit our students in the District Math Bowl. Thank you to our dedicated math coaches and good luck to the competitors!

Join us tonight, Feb. 22, for our District-wide Celebrate Black History All Day, Every Day event! We look forward to celebrating Black History through student and staff presentations at Brooks Middle School at 6 p.m. All community members are welcome to attend! Refreshments are available beginning at 5 p.m.

Holmes Elementary School students with perfect attendance during the month of January were rewarded with ice cream and brownies. There were 95 students with perfect attendance, which was the most of any month this year! We hope to have even more for our Perfect Attendance Pizza Party in February!

Congratulations to the newly inducted National Junior Honor Society students at Brooks Middle School! Leadership, Citizenship, Character, Service and Scholarship are the five pillars on which our students will excel. Congratulations and best to you in your continued success!

In observance of Presidents Day, Harvey School District 152 will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19. There will be no school for students or staff. Enjoy the long weekend!

Superintendent Dr. Lawrence celebrated with the highest performing scholars at Brooks Middle School at their ice cream social! While walking through the building, he enjoyed viewing decorated hallways featuring Black History month displays. Shout out to Ms. Buchanan for the interactive HBCU visits!

Superintendent Dr. Lawrence recently met with Harvey Police Department’s Chief Biddings. Our district goals include community engagement, collective impact, school safety, and partnership that build relationships and uplifts the community. We appreciate and are proud of our community partnerships!

We LOVE our parents and families in Harvey! The recent Bryant Parent University meeting was a success, many thanks to the support of our parents. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Matthews who facilitated the event and Pam Banks from Restoration Ministries for providing giveaways! This month, parents learned about the Illinois Assessment of Readiness Test. Watch for more details coming soon about the next Parent University meeting.

As a reminder, tomorrow Wednesday, Feb. 14, is a School Improvement Day. Students will be released at 12:30 p.m.

Last week, Holmes Elementary School kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school! Students were encouraged to dress as if they were 100-years-old and bring something to school that they had 100 of at home. They worked on projects throughout the day and had a great time celebrating 100 days!

A total of 84 students at Holmes Elementary School earned Perfect Attendance for the month of December! They received a special treat of hot chocolate and marshmallows which was a perfect way to warm up on a chilly day!

Brooks Middle School recently hosted their Winter Wonderland Dance. The students and staff had a wonderful time dancing the night away!

Recently, Holmes Elementary School had a raffle for students that met their growth goals and tested at grade level on the iReady benchmark that they took before Winter Break. Students received a raffle ticket if they tested at grade level, or achieved 50% of their growth goal in ELA and Math (earning up to four raffle tickets). The first raffle ticket that was drawn for each grade level received a refurbished Chromebook (compliments of HSD 152), and the second and third place winners received gift cards!

This week is National School Counseling Week! We’re proud to acknowledge our school counselors who support our students and staff each and every day. Thank you for being advocates for our students’ success!

Earlier this week, Brooks Middle School held their winter band concert for the school community to enjoy. Congratulations to our talented students and band teacher Mr. Mehalek on a job well done!
